Monsters and Regions
Each monster is sorted by region and will be added as they are encountered by the posse. Monsters that are marked with an asterisk can be found in more than one region, but are the same across the Weird West. V marks them as a variant creature, which means that they will have different behavior or stats based on their region or personality.
Disputed Territories (Kansas, Colorado): A DMZ of sorts due to the terms of the ceasefire of the civil war, this region is by and large lawless and filled with bandits, raiders, outlaws, partisan fighters, and anyone else who is on the run from either the North or the South.
The Great Basin (Southern California, Nevada): By and large a monster filled desert, the Great Basin still holds outposts of the Union and the Confederacy, and is also claimed by the Apache. There are reports of someone laying track in the region, as well as sighting of the Mexican Army.
The Great Maze (California): The western coast is a literal maze of cliffs and ocean water (hence the name) and home to a massive mining operation for gold, silver, and ghost rock. Food is rare here, due to the arid climate and a lack of fresh water. This region is home to the Lost Angels, Warlords that immigrated from China and their forces, and the Triads of Shan Fan, as well as segments of the navies of the Union, the Confederacy, and Mexico.
The Great Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho): One of the more wild areas of the Weird West, the only human inhabitants are the local Natives and what few settlers and prospectors make their home there. Though it is beautiful, there are increased monster sightings in the winter, and food gets especially scarce during that season.
The High Plains (Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska): A harmless seeming, if hilly region, the area coinciding with the Rocky Mountains is filled with monsters and other dangers, and there are the occasional irate Sioux braves or outlaw gang in the area. Theres also rumors of disappearances in the heart of the region.
Deseret (Utah): A new, primarily Mormon nation formed during the Civil War, and the home of Hellstrome Industries Ltd. and its founder Dr. Hellestrome. Also the home of a breed of the massive worm like creatrues known as rattlers.
Automaton*- A creation of Dr. Hellstrome. Typically armed with a Gatling gun and a Pincer. They are deployed wherever he feels he needs them.
Clockwork Tarantula*-Another Hellstrome Special. About 3’ high spider construct armed with typical spider weapons
Salt Rattler -
Sioux Nations (Dakota, Northern Nebraska, Eastern and Central Wyoming, Eastern Montana): One of the two Native American nations that arose during the war, and is run by a council of chiefs. The town of Deadwood, the Iron Dragon rail line, and the few mines that are allowed in the region by the council are the only outsider presence tolerated by the council. Tensions on both sides are not helped by the now disgraced General Custer or the Native group known as the Ravenites.
Indian Brave Veteran(V):
Indian Shaman (V):
Coyote Confederation (Eastern Oklahoma): The other Native nation founded during the war, the native tribes that live there are by and large independent, though all answer to the mysterious Coyote. The settlers in the region live in fortified towns and any meeting between the two groups are typically violent.
Indian Brave Veteran(V):
Indian Shaman (V):
Wild Southwest (New Mexico, Arizona): The region of the Confederacy that is nearest to Mexico has its share of problems, the biggest being outlaws, Apache raiders, and the distinct possibility of an invasion by Mexico. The area is also home to Tombstone, the origin of the Epitaph, a newspaper that reports on the weirder happenings in America. The other things that Tombstone is famous for are being a transit point for would be prospectors heading for the Great Maze and the Cowboy Gang. For famous incidents in the region as a whole, there was a nasty bit of business involving a group of hanging judges in Texas. Rumor has it that those particular judges got up and resumed killing after the townsfolk were put what normally be a permanent end to their reign of terror.
